Love Song Sunday – A Thousand Years

I know, I know. A lot of people love to hate the Twilight series. And even though I read each volume & went to the midnight show of every new film, I’ll admit that the books & movies has serious plot & character issues. I’m okay with that. We all need a little fluff in our lives from time to time.

But no matter how you feel about the content of the Twilight series, you should really give a listen to the soundtracks that accompany the movies, especially if you like alternative & indie rock.

My favorite track from the Breaking Dawn: Part One album is Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years. I actually saw the lyric version of the music video on YouTube before I ever knew it was associated with the movie. I can certainly understand why they chose it. The romantic lyrics, the lilting melody. It’s perfect for a wedding song and a good part of the album is essentially Bella & Edward’s wedding playlist. It even has a waltz time signature!*

Sigh.

*I was not a music major. I am taking this from years of watching Dancing With the Stars.

Love Song Sunday – We’ll Meet Again

We’ll Meet Again is classic 1940’s wartime romance. I can picture a soldier singing it to himself in a quiet moment, longing for home. Yearning for both a loved one and the community they left behind. It is both sad and hopeful at the same time and I love it.

I remember seeing this somewhere online & immediately going over to iTunes to purchase it. I had never heard Vera Lynn’s name, but her voice pulled at me. Below is a newsreel of her singing it to a large crowd of troops. I am posting both because even though I love the newsreel, it only has about half the song.

Sigh.

Love Song Sunday – Be Still

So many of these songs are tied to a memory or feeling for me. It was raining the day I first listened to Kelly Clarkson’s Be Still in my car on the way to work. I spent my early twenties in an on-again, off-again relationship and the moment I heard this song, it just spoke to me. It reminded me of wanting to start over with someone you love when it feels like everything has gone wrong. It reminded me of that feeling I had, that no matter what else happened, when we held one another, everything seemed right and the whole world went still for a moment.

Sigh.

Love Song Sunday – A Sunday Kind of Love

Welcome to my first Love Song Sunday!

I had the idea for this a while back & I am so excited that the blog is up & running so I can use it! I was listening to this lovely tune in the car when I had an idea. Every week (and I will do my best to have these ready for you every week), I’ll post a love song that makes me sigh for your enjoyment.

Naturally, our first installment must be my inspiration, from the amazing Etta James. According to Wikipedia, A Sunday Kind of Love had been published for 15 years before this version was recorded for Ms. James’s album, At Last!

Unless you were fortunate enough to start dating your future spouse at at a young age (like one of my favorite bloggers), you’ve wondered when you were going to meet The One. This song perfectly captures that longing.

And I can just picture a quiet evening at home, with candlelight and wine, slow dancing to this.

Sigh.
